Do retractable screens work on large bi-fold or lift-and-slide door openings?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Retractable screen systems are available in single-run widths up to 3m, and can be configured in opposing pairs for bi-fold openings up to 6m+. For a 4m lift-and-slide door, we typically specify a two-panel retractable system that meets in the centre when deployed. The cassettes are surface-mounted to the door frame reveal and are barely visible when retracted.

Which insects do retractable screens keep out in the UAE?

Accepted Answer

Standard 18×16 fibreglass mesh screens are effective against mosquitoes, flies, and midges — the primary pests during the ventilation months (October to April). They do not filter fine sand or dust particles, which require the windows to be closed during shamal events. For properties near standing water or irrigation areas, we recommend finer 20×20 mesh for improved mosquito exclusion.

Can insect screens be fitted to existing windows and doors?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, yes. Retractable screen cassettes can be surface-mounted to the existing frame reveal without removing or modifying the window or door. We require minimum reveals of 25–30mm for the cassette mount. Our team assesses compatibility at the site survey — most aluminium and uPVC systems are straightforward to retrofit.
